Sunway University has further strengthened its reputation as a university where academic excellence, social responsibility and sustainability converge, emerging as the #1 Private University in Malaysia in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.

The distinction places Sunway University among the world’s most sustainable universities, recognising its continued commitment to embedding sustainability across the University’s campus, education, research, innovation and engagement.

For Sunway University, sustainability extends beyond environmental initiatives. It is integral to its identity as a mission-driven Fifth Generation University, one that harnesses knowledge, innovation and partnerships to address real-world challenges and create meaningful impact for people and planet.

This commitment can be seen throughout the University ecosystem, from a campus designed around sustainable practices and responsible resource use to education and research aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Students and staff are encouraged not only to understand the challenges facing the world, but to actively contribute towards solutions.

The recognition also reflects Sunway University’s broader philosophy of “doing well by doing good”, demonstrating that institutional progress and global impact can advance together.

As Sunway University continues to expand its international standing, this latest sustainability distinction affirms an ambition that goes beyond rankings: to shape graduates, ideas and innovations capable of building a more sustainable, equitable and resilient future.
