Jeffrey Cheah Foundation Pledges RM500 Million to Establish One of Malaysia's Largest Education Endowments

Sunway Group's founder and chairman, Tan Sri Sir Dr Jeffrey Cheah, has announced a landmark commitment of RM500 million over the next five years to create one of Malaysia’s largest education endowments.
Modelled after legacy institutions such as Harvard University and the University of al-Qarawiyyin, the endowment will ensure sustained support for academic excellence, research, and innovation at Sunway University — in perpetuity.
The announcement was made by Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF) trustee and Sunway University Pro-Chancellor, Tan Sri Razman Hashim, during the JCF 2025 Scholarships and Awards Ceremony. The event was held in the presence of Her Royal Highness Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin, Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, where RM75 million worth of scholarships and grants was awarded to deserving students and researchers.
To date, the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation has disbursed more than RM967 million in scholarships and grants. This amount is expected to surpass RM1 billion by 2026, reaffirming JCF’s role as one of Malaysia’s most significant private philanthropic forces in education, dedicated to advancing equitable access and lifelong learning opportunities.
