Professor Elizabeth Lee Named Honorary Fellow At Wolfson College, University Of Cambridge
Wolfson College, University of Cambridge announced the appointment of Professor Dato’ Dr Elizabeth Lee as an Honorary Fellow, recognising her outstanding contributions to education.
Professor Lee graduated with an MPhil in Education in 1985 and has since dedicated her career to shaping the landscape of education in Malaysia and beyond.
Professor Lee’s research thesis on “Gender Differences in Second Language Acquisition” has had a profound impact on Malaysian schools, resulting in a more balanced participation of boys and girls in sciences and arts at the sixth form level and beyond.
As the Group Chief Executive of Sunway Education, Professor Lee has played a pivotal role in the growth of the institution, expanding it from a single institution to 20 institutions, covering early childhood learning to higher education and research-intensive centers, including the prestigious Sunway University.
The values upheld by Sunway Education closely align with those of Wolfson College, particularly in their commitment to supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Planetary Health, with a focus on providing equitable access to quality education.
Professor Lee’s leadership in education has garnered international recognition, with numerous awards acknowledging her advocacy for women in education and business.
In her own words, Professor Lee emphasised the transformative power of education, saying, “One does not have to be a world leader to change the world. One can be the force to shape leaders of tomorrow from the very classrooms which are intended to nurture such leaders.”
Professor Lee’s collaboration with Wolfson College has led to the establishment of strong ties with the ASEAN Young Scientists Network, resulting in two successful international conferences hosted by Wolfson and Sunway for emerging researchers from the ASEAN region.
Wolfson College, President, Professor Jane Clarke, expressed her delight in welcoming Professor Lee as an Honorary Fellow, highlighting their shared belief in the transformative potential of education.
Professor Clarke lauded Professor Lee’s tireless efforts to ensure access to education for all, particularly for girls in South-East Asia, affirming her as a beacon of inspiration for future generations.
