Postgraduate Research Scholarship For Collaborative Project With University Of Cambridge
The Department of Biological Sciences at Sunway University, Malaysia, is offering a fully funded PhD studentship to work on a collaborative project with the University of Cambridge Medical School, UK.
Project Description:
UK Biobank Project: Influence of adiposity and ethnicity on blood pressure, blood pressure control and cardiovascular events.
Body composition and ethnicity exert important influences on blood pressure and the development of chronically elevated blood pressure (hypertension). However, the extent to which these factors influence the response to different classes of anti-hypertensive therapy and longer-term blood pressure control, and the impact of these factors on cardiovascular outcomes, is poorly understood. The UK Biobank contains detailed phenotypic and outcome data on large numbers of individuals from different ethnic groups in the UK and the aim of this project is to utilise the Biobank resource to better understand the influence of factors such as body composition and ethnicity on blood pressure, response to therapy and cardiovascular outcomes.
Based at Sunway University, the studentship holder may spend up to one year at the Medical School in the University of Cambridge, and, subject to meeting appropriate entry requirements, may also have the opportunity to register for a University of Cambridge MPhil degree.
