Sunway University Receives 5 Star Rating from QS for the Second Time!
SIn the recent QS Stars audit announced on 7 December 2021, Sunway University emerged as a 5 Star rated (Excellent) institution for the second time.

In the 2021 rating exercise, the University scored 5 Stars in all 8 categories participated, including obtaining 5 Stars for the BSc (Honours) in Actuarial Studies programme...

Sunway University Leaped to #280 in 2021 as the World's Most Sustainable University
Sunway University has improved its ranking in the 2021 UI GreenMetric (UIGM) World University Rankings after it leaped 193 places to #280 position out of 956 universities worldwide.

This ranking was a tremendous improvement over the previous year when the university was at #473.

The UI GreenMetric World University Ranking is an initiative of Universitas Indonesia based on the green campus sustainability and environmental management efforts through six main criteria, namely setting and infrastructure; energy and climate change; waste; water; transportation and education...

Sunway University Welcomes Dr. Ponevacs-Pana Petra, Ambassador of Hungary to Malaysia
On her first visit to Sunway University on November 8th, Dr. Ponevacs-Pana Petra, Ambassador of Hungary to Malaysia and her colleagues met with the Prof. Graeme Wilkinson, Vice Chancellor and Prof Stephen Hall, Head of Centre of English Language Studies and Jeffrey Sachs Centre colleagues.

The discussion was centred on shared interest in sustainability education and developing links between Hungarian Universities and Sunway University.

Mitigating mitochondrial mutational meltdown: or how to prevent the ‘mothers curse’
Sunway University is proud to announce the return of the highly acclaimed Jeffrey Cheah Distinguished Speakers Series on the 30th November 2021.

To allow as many interested parties from all across the globe to participate, the hugely popular public lecture series returns on this occasion via MS TEAMS and Facebook LIVE. The lecture is free to attend and the world is invited.

This exclusive lecture series features notable speakers from their field of expertise and seeks to provide the wider community with a unique opportunity to listen to outstanding experts speak on a wide variety of topics, providing both a platform for intellectual discourse and lifelong learning.

In the lecture, Professor Patrick Chinnery, Jeffrey Cheah Professorial Fellow at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, spoke live from the UK on “Mitigating mitochondrial mutational meltdown: or how to prevent the ‘mothers curse’”. Sunway University and the Malaysian Society of Geriatric Medicine (MSGM) Inked a Collaborative Agreement to Improve Healthcare for the Elderly
The signing of the collaborative agreement between Sunway University and the Malaysian Society of Geriatric Medicine (MSGM) added another feather to the cap for School of Medical and Life Sciences.

The agreement was signed by Professor Sibrand Poppema, President of Sunway University and Dr Ungku Ahmad Ameen, President of MSGM, and supported by witnesses, Professor Abhimanyu Veerakumarasivam, Dean of the School of Medical and Life Sciences, Sunway University and Professor Tan Maw Pin of Universiti Malaya.

Successful organization of virtual seminars by CCDCU, Sunway University as a part of COP26@ Lancaster University Festival, 2021
Research Centre for Carbon Dioxide Capture and Utilisation (CCDCU), School of Engineering and Technology (SET) Sunway University successfully organized the series of virtual seminars on "Mitigating Climate Change Through Carbon Dioxide Capture and Utilization Technologies". The series of virtual seminars was organized as a part of COP26@ Lancaster University Festival, 2021. Speakers were from India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Qatar, Thailand, Australia, and UK. Dr. Numan and Professor Dr. Mohammad Khalid have successfully filed a patent application for "A Method of Synthesizing Mxene."
In this study, Dr. Numan Arshid and Professor Dr. Mohammad Khalid of the Graphene and Advanced 2D Materials Research Group (GAMRG), School of Engineering and Technology, successfully optimized etching parameters such as time, temperature, and molar ratios of LiF and HCL to develop a faster, greener, and more cost-effective method of producing delaminated MXene sheets. This production method is an evolutionary leap in MXene synthesis and could provide countless benefits like high-power energy storage.  ›

Employing Project-Based Learning in the Classroom
Since November 2021, Dr. Catherine Lee of the Department of Communications, School of Arts has been collaborating with her students on multiple projects, giving them the opportunity to observe and partake in a real-world working environment within their classroom through project-based learning.

This esports tournament was organised by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) from 6 Dec to 12 Dec 2021.
