The Mace

Historically, the mace was a weapon carried into battle by knights and warlike bishops, reflecting their status and prowess in the field. In the University context, was carried as a weapon to protect the Chancellor, but it has now evolved into a purely ceremonial device signifying the dignity and authority of the Chancellor. The Mace, designed by Royal Selangor Pewter is 4.5 ft in length and made of teakwood and pewter with 24 carat gold-plating.In medieval Europe, the mace was a weapon carried into battle by knights and warlike bishops, reflecting their status and prowess in the field. Designed by Royal Selangor Pewter Sdn Bhd, the Mace is 4.5 ft in length. The Mace is made of pewter in bright finish and its interior is supported by teakwood. Relevant parts are highlighted with 24-carat gold plating.

The head of the Mace is a shining sun in gold plate and, directly underneath, the University’s Coat of Arms is hand-chased in relief on 925 sterling silver.

The Sunway progressive “S” and Hibiscus flower, also hand-chased on silver and gold, represent the parentage of Sunway University, and the identity of Malaysia respectively. A crystal stone is set at the beginning of the name Sunway University to mark the front section of the Mace. The Mace rests on a nyatoh wood base in mahogany finish to complement the Chancellor’s Chair.

The Chancellor's Chair

The Chancellor's Chair represents the seat of authority of the Chancellor. It is made of solid nyatoh wood partly uphostered in leather with the Coat of Arms embellished as a gold-plated relief into the backrest.The Chancellor's Chair represents the seat of authority of the Chancellor. It is made of solid nyatoh wood, and finished in satin mahogany lacquer.

The seat, backrest and armrests are wrapped with natural rich brown leather from Germany.

The Coat of Arms of the University, in a highly sculptured relief on a finely textured background, and cast in pewter with gold plating, is placed at the apex of the backrest. The apex itself is modelled on the upper part of the portico of the Sunway University Building.
