Welcome to Sunway University, and to what I am sure will be a rewarding and life-changing experience.

At Sunway University we are proud of the fact that we have been awarded a five-star, or “Excellent” rating by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency in its national higher education rating system. This places us in the leading group of Malaysian public and private universities and attests to the quality of the academic curriculum and the learning experience at Sunway.  Our ranking also reflects our well-established, safe and green campus setting, with on-campus student hostels and student apartments, together with a range of modern sporting facilities, including a full-size football field.  

Sunway University has its origins in Sunway College, founded by Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah in 1987 to provide opportunities for young Malaysians to obtain higher education and training at the certificate, diploma and degree levels, especially in areas of national need.  It has developed over the years into one of Malaysia’s best known private higher education institutions, with a reputation for producing confident, well-rounded and highly employable graduates.

Sunway has the distinction of being owned by the non-profit Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, which means that all of the income that we receive is used to support our educational and research mission. 

In 2006 Sunway established an affiliation with Lancaster University, a high ranking, research-led UK institution.  Lancaster University validates our undergraduate degree programmes and many of our postgraduate programmes. This ensures that they are of a high academic standard and are internationally recognised. Graduating students receive a dual qualification, in the form of degrees from both Sunway and Lancaster.

Sunway’s diploma programmes in the School of Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure Management are validated by the internationally renowned Le Cordon Bleu, which ensures that these programmes too are of the highest international standard.

The awards offered at Sunway are also accredited by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education.
