
Management Information Systems Research Group focuses on managerial, behavioral, and social psychological issues of IT. It aims at creating new knowledge involving the application of Information Systems to build strategic and operational capabilities in organizations. It also intends to understand issues related to usage and impacts of IT at individual level. The research of this MISRG covers a number of different areas, including Strategic Information Management and Decision Making, Social Networking, and Knowledge Management.
This research area focuses on strategic and operational issues of IT sourcing decisions in organizations. It investigates how IT sourcing decisions are made in organizations, the types of impact these decisions have on different stakeholders, and the implementation plans following an IT sourcing decision. It also explores the topics of IT sourcing from the perspectives of service providers. Among the specific research topics are relational issues between service providers and their customers and contractual engagement between the two parties.
This research area focuses on individual and organizational aspects of social networking site usage. From an organizational perspective, the research investigates the strategy of incorporating social networking sites in long-term organizational plan. From an individual perspective, it uses the lens of psychological, social, and behavioral theories to explore how would usage (and potentially addiction) of social networking sites bring benefits but also create adverse effects on individual users.
Database research can be applied to various domains ranging from the technological field to the business oriented areas. This research area focuses not only on the technical aspects but also blend into managerial aspects of exploring effective data warehousing for better decision making. Investigations on effective data management, issues in transaction management system as well as maintenance of data consistency and integrity towards developing efficient query processing algorithms are among some of the database research topics.
