Overview

Research excellence lies at the core of the mission at Sunway University. The School of Computer Technology is strongly committed to this mission by conducting research that are of national importance and can attract international academic interest. The research is organised cross-disciplinary across the various academic departments in the school and consists of three main research groups:

• Intelligent and Visual Computing Research Group focuses on developing the next generation of intelligent computing environments with smart systems and human computing interfaces for everyone. Our research activities include artificial intelligence, machine learning, visual information processing, biometrics and applications for society such as for affective computing and business intelligence.
• Pervasive Computing Research Group focuses on developing the next generation of pervasive computing environments with information and communication technology everywhere, for everyone, at all times. Our research activities include distributed computing, embedded systems, sensors, wireless technologies and applications for society such as for assistive technology and educational systems.
• Management Information Systems Research Group focuses on managerial, behavioural, and social psychological issues of IT. It aims at creating new knowledge involving the application of Information Systems to build strategic and operational capabilities in organizations. It covers a number of different research areas, including Strategic Information Management and Decision Making, Social Networking, and Knowledge Management.

Each group comprises of staff members from different academic departments in the School of Computer Technology. This allows the creation of an exciting synergy from various expertise, experience, knowledge and perspectives. Multi-disciplinary research is enhanced by collaborating with staff from other schools in the university. The School of Computer Technology has a growing reputation for innovation and a recipient of numerous research grants with three research groups currently working on cutting edge technological projects.
