Research Management Plan

Sunway University is committed to developing a programme of high quality research that enables contribution to the advancement and application of knowledge in Malaysia and thus supports national development goals. At the same time, a culture of research and inquiry will ensure that its teaching programmes are relevant and up-to-date and its staff academicians are at the leading edge of their discipline areas. The University will progressively strengthen and improve its capacity to conduct and support productive research that serves the national interest. The overall aim of our Research Management Plan is to address this central theme from four perspectives, namely, culture, core activities, staff, students and external clients, and financial support. 

The key objectives from the four perspectives are shown below:

(1) Culture

  • To establish an research-conducive environment, by developing a culture of trust within campus.
  • To establish and develop a culture of life-long education, continuous improvement and professional innovation.
  • To establish and develop a culture that takes into cognizance the needs of institutional partners, academic staff, postgraduate students and external clients.

(2) Core Activities

  • To identify and develop niche areas of research in terms of intensity, priority and opportunity.
  • To proliferate and direct resources especially to niche areas of research.
  • To develop research and research training management systems and produce desired outcomes.
  • To improve research within the University and at local and international level with its academic alliances.

(3) Staff, Students and External Clients

  • To recruit, develop and retain quality staff who are outstanding and entrepreneurial researchers with extensive networks.
  • To attract, develop and graduate the highest quality students.
  • To establish strategic partnership with industry and the community.
  • To enhance research and development relationships in accordance with the expectations of staff, students and external clients.

(4) Financial Support

  • To allocate performance-based resources into niche research areas.
  • To increase the level of external support for research and development.
  • To diversify the funding base of the University.

The mission of the Research Office is to support and advance these objectives, in collaboration with the academic Schools and Departments, staff, research students and external collaborators and stakeholders.
