PSY 5014 ADVANCED RESEARCH METHODS

Introduces students to understand the process of designing complex research projects, collecting data, analysing data using appropriate methods of statistical analysis, and subsequently present research findings in a systematic manner. In addition, students are required to understand APA format, concepts surrounding the types of research design and understand ethical issues involved in research.

PSY 5024 ADVANCED STATISTICS

Ensure that students are familiar with a variety of statistical techniques to be used with different forms of data in complex designs. Students are required to understand the formulae for univariate and basic multivariate statistics, and know how to code, analyse and interpret quantitative data to answer research questions using SPSS and non-computing methods.

PSY 5014 ADVANCED RESEARCH METHODS

PSY 5034 HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

Involves being able to understand the value of human capital in organisations by providing an in-depth examination of how to prepare managers and consultants to meet the challenges of organisational change. It prepares the student to develop and critically evaluate strategies to apply in problematic situations to increase performance by identifying training needs for organisations.

PSY 5044 HUMAN ENGINEERING & RELATIONS

The main focuses on understanding the relation between work space, employee performance, and human esteem in designing a conducive work environment. Students are expected to design the work space to match needs of the employee and work activity, investigate the effect of environment conditions and cognitive methods on work performance, and identify the various occupational hazards and develop techniques to prevent them.

PSY 5053 INDUSTRIAL ETHICS

An important aspect of post graduate study in industrial ethics involves being able to understand legal and moral issues in organisations. The emphasis will be on the work environment, employee safety, eco- friendly and benefit schemes. Students would also be expected to carry out a critical analysis of the major ethical issues in industrial setups using case study methods.

PSY 5063 PERSONNEL PSYCHOLOGY

This module examines the selection process, training implementation, placement and promotion procedures. It also focuses on industrial counselling for employees to suit the work environment.

PSY 6013 COUNSELLING SKILLS IN INDUSTRIAL PSYCHOLOGY

In-depth examination of the applications of the counselling psychology theories to the present day work settings. It focuses mainly on applying counselling techniques to promote well-being, performance efficiency, crisis management among employees in the work setting, and promote employee-employer relationship.

PSY 6023 PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT

The main purpose of this module is to instruct students in the use of a variety of psychological assessments that are relevant to organisational development. These include tests of aptitude, consumer behaviour, social perception, leadership, life and career satisfaction and motivation.

PSY 6034 TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

In this module the student will be exposed to various training techniques such as leadership training, interpersonal training, team building, motivation training, communication training, orientation training, and stress management training. As part of the assessment, the student will be expected to demonstrate his/her training skills.

PSY 6046 INTERNSHIP

The objective of this module is to give students an opportunity to apply a variety of theories and practical skills learnt during the postgraduate course in an applied setting. During the internship, students will be prepared to understand professional behaviour in an occupational setting and understand how organisations function.

PSY 6058 POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH PROJECT

The demonstration that a postgraduate psychology student has mastered the basic craft and discipline of research is to be able to independently design and carry out an extensive research project. This course enables students to design their own studies based on an existing psychological theory or issue, independently collect data needed for the study, analyse the data, and report the results of the study in a professional manner.
