Adjunct Professor Tjuddin Ismail, Advisor, Curriculum Committee

Adjunct Professor Tjuddin Ismail has over 35 years of art and design education experience. He was formerly an Associate Professor at the Mara University of Technology(UiTM) from 1975 - 2009. During his tenure at UiTM, he held many positions as Head of Department and Associate Professor in the Faculty of Art & Design. He is also one of the pioneering committee members who structured, introduced and monitored the interior architecture degree programmes offered at UiTM.

Adjunct Professor Tjuddin is a Fulbright Research Fellow of the American Council for Learned Society (ACLS), New York. He also holds a Master in Interior Architecture from Pratt Institute, a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Diploma in Art Education from UiTM.

Besides lecturing, he is also an active painter and designer, and has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions locally and abroad.

Adjunct Professor Tjuddin was appointed the Advisor of the Curriculum Committee in the Department of Art & Design at Sunway University. He mentors junior staffs, engages students and organisations on projects for the community.

Ang Tong Yin, Head (Academic) - Department of Art and Design

Ang Tong Yin obtained an MA in Visual Communication from the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, University of Central England, UK as well as a Diploma in Graphic Design from the Malaysian Institute of Art. Upon completing her diploma, she practiced in the design industry as a designer for three years before continuing her postgraduate study.

After returning from the UK, Tong Yin taught the BA (Hons) Graphic Design, a UK 3+0 degree programme at a local institution for more than 6 years. She also taught Graphic Design at the Inner Mongolia Normal University in China for a year.

She believes that learning is a life-long process which takes place in a variety of environment through different methodologies.

Aylmer Lee, Lecturer

Aylmer Lee obtained a MA in Animation, Sound and Visual Media from the Teesside University in 2011 and was involved in a research on 3D character animation and special FX. He completed his undergraduate course in Nottingham Trent University with a 1st Class Honors Degree in Graphic Design and a Diploma in Art and Design from Saito College.

Aylmer spent 10 years working in the advertising, multimedia and education industry prior to joining Sunway University as a full time lecturer in the Art and Design department in 2012. He has participated in numerous animation competitions and had won a grand prize for creating a promotional video on the Islamic Arts Museum, Malaysia.

Asmadi Jusoh, Lecturer

Asmadi Jusoh is a BSc.(Hons) Housing, Building and Planning (1993) and Bachelor of Architecture (1994) graduate from University Science Malaysia (USM).

Asmadi practiced architecture for five years in various organisations before joining the academic sector in 2000. He has previously taught at University Tun Abdul Razak (UNITAR), Open University of Malaysia (OUM) and in 2007, he joined Sunway University College as a lecturer, specializing in Computer Aided Design and Building Construction.

In October 2011, he was involved in a research to develop the Malaysia Space Port Project for space tourism and was given the honor to present the research papers in Paris.

Intan Abida Abu Bakar, Lecturer

Intan Abida obtained her MA in Visual Communication & New Media (VISCOM) from the Mara University of Technology and completed her first degree in Graphic Design (Majoring in Advertising) from the same university. She also graduated with a Diploma in Education from Maktab Perguruan Batu Pahat, Johor.

She has over 11 years of professional experience as a Graphic Design lecturer and 3 years in the design field. In 2001, she joined the Johor Bahru Polytechnic as a graphic design lecturer with its Design Department for 4 years before joining the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology. Her various roles over the 7 years at Limkokwing University included being a Principal Lecturer and Program Leader and being involved in many Inducity (Industry) projects and researches organised by the university.

Intan joined Sunway University in 2011 teaching Graphic Design. Her philosophy in life is “Impossible, Possible” and she believes that education should be fun and creative. Creativity has no walls, no boundaries and no limits.

Nasarudin Ahmad, Lecturer

Nasarudin Ahmad teaches Drawing, Painting and Printmaking in the Fine Art program and is also a practicing Fine Artist specializing on figurative painting. Nasarudin is a graduate from the Mara University of Technology(UiTM) with a Bachelor of Fine Art (major in Painting and minor in Printmaking and Drawing).

Nasarudin joined Sunway University College in 2008. As an accomplished artist, he has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions locally. Nasarudin is currently working on his Master research thesis on ‘Contemporary Malaysian Figurative Paintings’.

Nurul Ain Haron, Lecturer

Nurul Ain Haron is a MA in Art (major in Design Technology) graduate from the Mara University of Technology(UiTM). She also obtained her BA (Hons) in Industrial Design and Diploma in Industrial Design from the same university.

Nurul worked as a Designer Engineer in a private firm for three years before embarking on a teaching career at Sunway University in 2011. She believes that the experiences gained through the years as a working professional in the related field can be applied during lectures as a showcase of real world situation.

At Sunway University she teaches Interior Design, Furniture Design, History of Interior Design and Lighting Application.

Saiful Hazmi Bachek, Lecturer

Saiful Hazmi Bachek is a graduate from the Mara University of Technology(UiTM) with a Bachelor in Interior Architecture. He practiced as an Interior Designer for five years before embarking onto teaching in 2009. His portfolio included different projects from residential to commercial, managing the sequence of work from schematic to finishing and dealing with materials and costs. Saiful is currently pursuing his Master of Art in Heritage and Conservation Management at UiTM.

Saravanamalar Surarajah, Lecturer

Saravanamalar Surarajah, graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) with a Master of Science in Multimedia. She also completed her first degree in Computer Science from the same university.

Sara joined Sunway University in 2007 teaching Multimedia subjects. She encourages communicating ideas through web design and multimedia applications, as these are the essentials of the information age now. She actively participates in various educational programs and talks organized by Sunway University and feels that teaching should be ‘inspiring’ not ‘instructing’. Her research interest is on eLearning and web applications.

Shahnila Mughees, Lecturer

Shahnila Mughees hasover 9 years of Fine Art teaching experiences. Shereceived her Master in Fine Arts in 2001 from the Lahore College for Women University, Pakistan with a gold medal. She is a discerned artist of merit and has multidimensional skills. In addition, she is a sculptor of high caliber. She also obtained a Diploma in ceramics and sculpture from the Naqsh school of Art, from Lahore, Pakistan.

Having participated in a number of art exhibitions, Shahnila’s work has been hailed widely among theelitists art fraternity as feministic and naturalistic. She was a senior member of the Faculty in the Lahore College for Women University in the department of Fine Arts where she supervised students’ MA research papers. Currently, she is a lecturer in the Department of Art & Design, Sunway University and involves herself in academic research. Besides teaching painting and sculpture, she also specializes in Art History.

Susan Phua Sai Leng, Lecturer

Susan Phua is a Bachelor of Arts, Design graduate from the Curtin University of Technology, Australia. She obtained her Diploma in Commercial Art from the Malaysian Institute of Arts. Susan had 5 years of industry experiences in the advertising agencies and design houses as a designer and eventually as an Associate Creative Director. She embarked on teaching in 1994 as a lecturer with the Saito Academy of Graphic Design.

In 1995, she joined the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology serving various academic roles over the years including being a Year Leader, Principal Lecturer and Program Leader. After 13 years with the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Susan joined Sunway University in 2008 as the Coordinator for the Graphic and Multimedia Design program. Relinquishing her position as Coordinator to focus on research which includes Online Social Networking and its Influence on Youths, Branding and Multicultural Education among others, she is currently pursuing her Master of Science with Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Most of her teaching and learning concerns have, over time, been overcome through personal experimentation and an adventurous spirit of exploration.

Sammy Chong, Programme Executive

Sammy Chong is the Programme Executive in the Department of Art & Design, overseeing student activities and community art projects that the Department of Art & Design actively organizes weekly and monthly. These include ceramic, pottery, paper sculpture, batik painting, polymer clay, ‘felties’, acrylic/oil painting, watercolor, sketching and drawing. The objective of the community art project is to share art knowledge and simple techniques in art and craft making with the community both for adults as well as children.

Teh Mee Fun, Student Administrative Executive

Teh Mee Fun is the Student Administrative Executive in the Department of Art & Design.

As Student Administrative Executive, her role is to provide assistance and advice to students on enrollment and course progression as well as to monitor students’ attendance. She also manages the resources and processes in the department such as classroom allocation, time-tabling, EMS, etc.
