Sunway University College and Le Cordon Bleu, an internationally renowned institution synonymous with culinary excellence, signed an agreement on 22 March to mark the Joint Venture and Validation arrangements between the two institutions.
At a ceremony officiated by Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah AO, Founder and Chairman of the Sunway Group, and Dr André Cointreau, President and CEO of Le Cordon Bleu International, the Sunway-Le Cordon Bleu Institute of Culinary Arts, will be launched.

The Institute, which will be governed by a joint Board of Directors, will be a premier culinary establishment that will offer the Le Cordon Bleu Classic Cycle training programmes in cuisine and pâtisserie.
The Classic Cycle is considered to be one of the most intensive and comprehensive training programmes in classic French cuisine and pastry techniques available today. In the nine-month long course, students progressively discover and master the basics of French Cuisine and Pâtisserie in a complete and systematic manner.

Students progress in three stages: Basic, Intermediate and Superior, each extending over three months. They will earn the Diplôme de Cuisine or the Diplôme de Patisserie at the end of the nine-month period. If they take both Cuisine and Pâtisserie, they will earn the Grand Diplôme de Cuisine et de Pâtisserie.
The new Institute will also offer exciting professional short courses for the leisure and professional market. Examples of some of these courses are “Marriage of Food and Wine”, “Traditional Bread Making and Viennoiserie”, and “French Regional Cooking”.
Under the collaboration too, the diploma programmes in the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management will be validated by Le Cordon Bleu, and dual certificates will be issued to the diplomates. The existing Diplomas in Culinary Arts, Hotel Management and Events Management will be the first to be validated.

The signing ceremony
In addition, the culinary aspects of the Sunway BSc Honours degree in International Hospitality Management will be validated by Le Cordon Bleu, leading to the award of the Le Cordon Bleu Diplôme Culinaire d’Hôtelier, in addition to the degree. New degree programmes in hotel and restaurant management, conventions and events management, and culinary management will be introduced in collaboration with Le Cordon Bleu.
The collaboration with Le Cordon Bleu opens up a new era for culinary and hospitality education and training in Malaysia, bringing the expertise of a world famous culinary institution to Sunway, complementing the fine tradition of expert training in cuisine, and in hospitality, tourism and events management, that already exists in the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management.
