Part-time acting, full-time blogging

CINDY Tey would be forgiven for thinking that her life is like a TV script – the beautiful girl-next-door who triumphs against all odds and has her life changed forever.
She had auditioned for last year’s Malaysian Dreamgirl (MDG) online reality modelling competition “just for fun,” but ended up winning it even though she wasn’t the most fancied in the finals.
“I auditioned because I had just graduated from Australia and had nothing do to when I came back,” the former Sunway University College performing arts student said.
Although it has only been about a year since her win, Tey has already moved on from modelling and a whole new career.
“I’ve always been interested in acting and I didn’t know anything about modelling to begin with. Dreamgirl was really just for fun.
“These days, I consider myself a full-time blogger and I have an acting job with the Actors Studio as well,” the 22-year-old said.

Moving on: Tey says she also has an acting job with the Actors Studio now.
Even though modelling might not have been good for her, it did a world of good for her blog – http://www.teycindy.com/ – which she described as being about “food, travel, personal insights and lots of pictures.”
“I’ve been blogging for about five years, but before, it was always very personal. Dreamgirl made it possible for me to blog for a living. After the competition, my hits went up eightfold!”
What do you like about KL?
To me, KL is the heart of Malaysia. A city that is our very own New York, San Francisco, LA and Washington – all rolled into one. Since I love shopping and movies, I like how the malls are near to each other. Once in a while, I also enjoy walking down Petaling Street for variety. And, I really like KLIA; I don’t know why.
What do you dislike about KL?
The jam, the tolls, the pollution.
What’s your favourite food?
I can’t choose! I live to eat and I enjoy spicy food the most like Korean or Thai. I love steamboats too!
What do you do to relax?
Pedicures, facials, massages and spas. Sometimes I join singing or dance classes. Working out at the gym or swimming can be fun too.
What’s your favourite place to hang out?
The Curve, or the pasar malam if it doesn’t rain!
