Sunway University College Bags Three Top Awards at the MCBC BEAs

Sunway University College (Sunway) made a milestone achievement recently when it bagged two Gold Awards and the High Commissioner’s Award all on the same evening.

The staff members representing Sunway were already on cloud nine upon receiving the second award, needless to say, they were speechless when the one and only High Commissioner’s Award was announced.

Sunway took home the Gold Award for the Industry Excellence in Education category at the 5th Malaysia Canada Business Council Business Excellence Awards presentation ceremony with Taylors’ University coming in next and HELP University College with the Bronze Award. In this category, the award is given to an educational institution that demonstrates a commitment and adherence to the highest standard of education, based on the criteria of rigorous policies and procedures for the quality of its courses and programs; accessibility to a wide economic range of students from different backgrounds; and the three-pronged focus of teaching, research and service.

Their second Gold Award came from the Good Corporate Citizen category. This award is given to a corporation or an individual who has made a significant contribution in community involvement such as environmental awareness, programs that assist underprivileged groups or such programs that have impacted individuals and the community in a positive way. Other criteria will be that the projects or programs have a meaningful or sustained effect on the community.

The third and most prestigious award received by Ms Elizabeth Lee, Executive Director of Sunway University College and Sunway Group of Colleges on behalf of Sunway, is the High Commissioner’s Award, the only award given for significant contribution to Malaysian-Canadian bilateral relations directly resulting from the course of its daily business that reflects the spirit of the Malaysia Canada Business Council.

“It is with great pride that I received the awards on behalf of Sunway University College at the Malaysia Canada Business Council Business Excellence Awards 2008” said Ms Elizabeth Lee. “These awards are a tribute to the fine work of each and every member of Sunway staff and students. I would like to specially thank all colleagues who have helped with the compilation and documentation of our achievements. I was told it was a close fight all the way to clinch these top awards” added Ms Lee.

The awards were presented by Y.B. Datuk Liew Vui Keong, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (Trade) on behalf of the Minister of International Trade and Industry, and witnessed by H.E. David B Collins, High Commissioner of Canada.

Sunway University College has been offering the Canadian International Matriculation programme since 1991 and is one of the largest providers of the Canadian Matriculation (Year 12) in the world. As a result of Sunway’s continual success and growth in delivering this Year 12 programme, and because Sunway attributes great value to expanding the provision of the Canadian curriculum in Malaysia, it has established the first Canadian international school in Malaysia. Sunway International School, a private co-educational institution, was launched in October 2007 and admitted its first intake of Grades 10 and 11 of the Ontario Ministry of Education High School curriculum students in January this year.
