Sunway University College Celebrates 20 Years
Sunway University College is moving forward in time with the unveiling of its 20th anniversary logo and tagline: Achieve, Reflect, Surpass. These three action-oriented words highlight Sunway’s year-long celebrations throughout 2007.
Sunway University College, having achieved much in the past 20 years, is taking this anniversary as an opportunity to reflect on its successes and to carefully contemplate how to surpass itself in the future. Essentially, the spirit embraced during the anniversary is continuous improvement.
Ms.Elizabeth Lee, the Executive Director, and Professor Jarlath Ronayne, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Sunway University College, unveiled the anniversary logo and tagline in a simple ceremony recently.
The launch device – a giant book – was developed by Chee Kok Ban, a student from Intec College (a member of the Sunway Education Group). A short abstract interpretation of the tagline was presented by students from Sunway’s Department of Performance and Media.
Mr. Lee Weng Keng, CEO of the Sunway Group’s Education and Healthcare Division, commented during his speech, “Sunway University College may be only 20 years old, but it does not necessarily take many years to become a high quality institution.”
“The National University of Singapore is merely 50-years-old, but it ranks within the top 20 in the world,” he pointed out.
Sunway University College aims to further elevate the academic status of the staff through the pursuit of the Masters and PhD degrees. There are plans for staff involvement and participation in research, workshops, conferences and lecturer exchange programmes with Universities overseas.
New programmes would include the honours degree in Business Studies, Bachelor of Science (Hons) International Tourism Management, Bachelor of Science (Hons) International Hospitality Management, Bachelor of Science (Hons) International Conventions & Events Management and Bachelor of Science (Hons) Retail Marketing Management.
In the pipeline are the honours degree in Accounting & Finance, honours degree in Law and Diploma in Nursing. Other 20th Anniversary celebration activities include a Treasure Hunt in April followed by a Community Carnival in May, an International Academic Conference, and a Gala Dinner in October.
