It was a proud moment for Sunway University College when it received the GOLD award for the Industry Excellence for Education category of the 4th Malaysia Canada Business Council (MCBC) Business Excellence Awards 2006, earlier this month.
The MCBC Business Excellence Awards are designed to recognise the achievements and contributions of successful Canadian or Malaysian businesses bi-annually.
In his message at the Business Excellence Award dinner, during which the announcements of the winners were made, Roger F. Poulin, President of the MCBC said “We are honoured that you have joined us tonight to celebrate an evening in the company of fellow Canadians and Malaysians, who exude and appreciate the true spirit of business excellence and the value of bilateral relationships between our two countries”

The winning of the GOLD for Sunway University College demonstrates its meeting the overall criteria of the award which is given to an institution of higher education that demonstrates a commitment and adherence to the highest industry standards. The award is based on the further criteria of rigorous policies and procedures for the quality of its courses and programmes, accessibility to a wide range of students from different backgrounds; and the three-pronged focus of teaching, research and service.
Elizabeth Lee, Executive Director of Sunway University College summed up her thoughts on the happy occasion “Our ties with Canada go a long way as we have recreated a Canadian pre-university education experience at Sunway complete with imported Canadian lecturers, who have been favourably received. We hope to see a strengthening of this collaboration in our future plans of extending the Canadian education downstream to the school level, to cater to the needs of the international market in this region.”
