Why Study at VU-Sunway?


Many local and international students have completed their degree at VU–Sunway and have established promising careers worldwide in the past 18 years.


The VU Bachelor of Business (BBNS) degree is approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE), fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and audited by the Australian Tertiary Education Quality Standards Agency (TEQSA). The VU Bachelor of Business (BBNS) in Accounting is recognised by professional bodies such as CPA Australia and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), as well as the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).


This unique curriculum comprises a Business Learning Experience Project that requires students to undertake three Business Challenge units complementing the major area of study. These units are taught using a technology intensive learner-centred collaborative learning model.


Students are strongly encouraged to do internships, prior graduation. The programme assists to facilitate second and third year students into placement with the ‘Big 5’ accounting firms and other corporations.


As a result of the focus on the development of a student’s personal attributes and professional skills, VU graduates are recognised for their adaptability, employability and are sought after by international employers, such as KPMG, Deloitte KassimChan, PricewaterhouseCoopers, DHL and many more.


The VU Bachelor of Business (BBNS) (Marketing) received accreditation from the Australian Marketing Institute in 2012, providing an independent verification of status and quality, thus recognising the course as meeting the requirements for course content. The accreditation is extended to VU’s offshore partners at Sunway in Malaysia.


The curriculum delivered at VU–Sunway is identical to the one in Melbourne, Australia. The syllabi, assignments, tests and final examinations are set by VU, ensuring a true Australian university education. All tests and examinations are conducted on the same day and at the same time as VU, Melbourne. The academic transcripts and certificates are issued by VU.


Providing assurance of a true Australian learning experience, academic staff from VU regularly teach at Sunway and provide academic counselling to the students every semester.


Students at Sunway consistently obtain a higher average mark than their Australian peers and frequently achieve top position in the examinations across all campuses in Australia, a testimony of the dedication and quality teaching by Sunway lecturers on the VU programme.


The VU Business Club and the Sunway CPA Australia Student Charter are run by students who independently carry out activities with their course mates and also network with the business community. Students and academic staff of VU–Sunway also jointly publish a newsletter, the VU Voices, highlighting events and activities that are held throughout the year.


These classes were launched to meet the needs of students who require assistance on specific aspects of academic writing. Lessons are on a modular basis and they cover among others: Essay and Report Format, Referencing using Harvard System, Reading and Thinking Critically, Summarising and Paraphrasing, specific report-writing aspects such as Literature Review, Executive Summary and Recommendations as well as Techniques for Interviewing Managers.


Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) programme is a globally recognised, graduate level qualification for investment professionals. Final year VU Bachelor of Business (BBNS) students in the Banking & Finance and / or Financial Risk Management Business specialisations can choose to pursue this renowned programme even before they graduate. They will be offered exemptions for selected workshop subjects in the CFA programme via collaboration between Sunway College and AB Maximus, the leading CFA course provider in Southeast Asia.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Australia
Ethics and Governance is the recommended first subject of the CPA Programme. Malaysian students can now take Ethics and Governance before completing their degree and have their fee fully paid for through TalentCorp’s UNI-Qualified Fund. CPA Australia worked with TalentCorp to provide this option to VU–Sunway students to give them a head start in their professional certification and make them more marketable upon joining the workforce.

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
VU Bachelor of Business (BBNS) (Accounting) students will be able to register with ACCA before they complete their undergraduate studies.

ACCA will support students of Accelerate accredited programmes who will have the following exceptional financial conditions:
> Free initial registration fee
> Free annual subscription fee up to two years, inclusive of graduation year
> Deferred exemption fee payment up to 24 months after graduation


Students have the flexibility and mobility to choose to transfer to VU in Australia at any time during their course of study. Subject to approval, VU students at Sunway can also complete one semester in VU Melbourne through the Student Exchange Programme without paying the much higher Australian tuition fee.

Students finishing their first year studies upon meeting all the specific conditions, can also opt to transfer to Australian and New Zealand universities.


Embedded in the VU Bachelor of Business (BBNS) curriculum are 3 units in the Business Challenge stream which focusses on the development and enhancement of personal and professional attributes much sought after by employers in fresh graduates to cope with the demands of modern industry.

The Integrated Business Challenge (BPD1100) via student- centred learning with group experiential activities will draw upon other 1st year discipline units to instil conflict management, critical thinking, information analysis, written and oral business communication skills in addition to team dynamics.

The International Business Challenge (BPD2100) will include analysis of global business opportunities, business proposals and managing international projects as well as designing of career plans and CV whilst developing professional portfolios to market to prospective employers.

The Applied Business Challenge (BPD3100), the capstone unit emphasises the development, demonstration and application of students’ skills around the themes of leadership and challenge required for professional practice. The assessments emulate professional practice by offering multi-disciplinary, simulation or research based projects.

Whist rigorous and exacting, there is enhanced understanding through application of real-life experiences and perspectives are broadened with exposure to issues beyond classroom learning. The VU Bachelor of Business (BBNS) programme will produce employable graduates who not only possess technical knowledge, but skills highly valued by employers and the business community to take on the challenges of today’s business environment.
